Red White and Blue French Toast Bake

Red White and Blue French Toast Bake

The past couple of weeks I have been letting my boys pick out the recipes that I write about. It has been a lot of fun and very family involved. Even if they still do not want their picture on my blog. BUT, I have been craving a french toast bake. This past weekend mom took back her blog and decided to make a red white and blue french toast bake. The best thing about this recipe is that it is not overnight.

I have been craving french toast but did not want to make it the night before. Especially when I read that you need to let it sit out for thirty minutes before you bake it. I don’t know about you but when I get up in the morning I am starving. There is no way my stomach is going to let me wait an hour for breakfast.

Not story time, but close 🙂

Before we get into that how was everybody’s weekend? Mine was wonderful 🙂 Urban and me got away for the day for some much needed adult time. With three kids and the only babysitter is grandparents it is really hard to get away. It was an amazing day.

If you are in Missouri and want to take in some wineries I highly recommend the Augusta area. It is this quaint little town about 40 minutes outside of St. Louis.

Bake to my recipe!

Turns out making a french toast bake that’s not overnight is not that hard.

The recipe is designed for a 9 x 9 pan. This way there is just enough for breakfast and we won’t snack on it the rest of the day.

Take 1/2 a loaf of french bread and cut into 1/4″ cubes. Divide in 1/2 and spread 1/2 of it in the bottom of your pan.

Add the remainder of the french bread and top with the milk and egg mixture. Pour over the top of the bread. I added even more cinnamon because I love cinnamon. But this is your choice.

Bake at 350 for 30 minutes.

Make the topping

While this is baking make your topping. Take 1 cup of water and when it starts to boil add 1 cup of sugar and stir until dissolved. Turn heat down and add the remaining strawberries and blueberries. Cook until the fruit is tender and starts to fall apart.

This was absolutely delicious 🙂 One of my favorites recipes that I have made.
